Before anything else, make sure you have your files uploaded to a cloud service of your choice (Dropbox, Box or Google Drive). Another thing to note is that this extension works well with Gmail – so do get one before you proceed.
Installation
Install the extension in Chrome.
Log on to your Gmail account. You should get a pop-up box to activate the extension.
Choose the cloud service you want to use. It should lead you to another screen to authenticate the action by logging in.
Once your account is linked, you should be able to compose a message and attach any file stored in that cloud account. Below is an example of sending an image file I have stored in my Dropbox account. There should be a link below the subject line that says Insert: Cloud file. This is the link for Attachments.me. Note that this is different from the Attach a file link which is the default file attachment method for Gmail.
Upon clicking on “Insert: Cloud file”, you should get another window that lets you choose your cloud service and navigate all your files and folders. Click on the file you want to attach and click on “Insert”.
The link will be inserted in the e-mail body. The recipient of the e-mail message need only to click on the link to access the file.
Don’t forget to hit “Send:! In addition to attaching cloud files, Attachments.me is a great way to organize all received and sent e-mail attachments. Just access your account using their website (you can log in using your Google account or register for free). Once logged in, you’ll be able to see a gallery of all your e-mail attachments and can organize them in different ways. I find this is highly convenient as opposed to scanning or trying to search for the file itself in your inbox. You can also easily attach a file again to a new e-mail message, right from the web application.
E-mail attachments are just as important as files saved in our hard drives, so it only makes sense to make more effort in taking care of them. From the experience I had, Attachments.me is a great extension as well as a free web application that gets the job done while offering other useful features.
